Matthew McGloin in CasablancaBox at HERE Arts Center

All part of their 3-year HARP residency at HERE Arts Center, this marks the last workshop showing of Sara and Reid Farrington's CasablancaBox before its upcoming official premiere in 2017.

The 1942 classic Casablanca was notoriously one of the most chaotic movie shoots in Hollywood history, somehow coming together by a series of brilliant accidents. Written and re-written countless times, born amid the agony of WWII, and cast almost entirely with European refugees fleeing the Gestapo, Casablanca somehow remains timely and moving. Our CasablancaBox is an imagined backstage look at the making of "America's Favorite Movie" through a multi-narrative script, an intricately woven video score, and a cast of thousands. It's our attempt at an onstage "roving camera," following both the major and minor players as they wade through the glamour, war, censorship, sexism, racism, and violence of 1940s Hollywood.
